FDNY victim of 9/11 illness is mourned on Staten Island

Former FDNY Lt. Martin Fullam, 56, of Annadale, a 9/11 first responder who later became ill and whose efforts helped make the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act a reality, received a line-of-duty funeral Saturday.

Hundreds of firefighters from New York City and other regions gathered under clear blue skies at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Huguenot to honor Fullam, who died Monday at his home from polymyositis, a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the body’s muscle tissues, and pulmonary fibrosis in the lungs.
